via Instagram This is what one can accomplish in 26 hours, round trip. π …that, and eating SO MUCH delicious food, connecting with an old friend, a clandestine wedding dress delivery, getting lost in @PowellsBooks, ice cream for dinner, and the purpose of the trip: using a plane ticket that was about to expire *specifically* to see this play. π I went into it knowing the basic storyline and having read some of the playwright’s other work (which I got SIGNED!). The story resonated with me in such a way that made me feel seen- my only regret is not bringing Sam with me. π It felt like this play was written for those of us who have ethnic dads, especially dads who immigrated to the US and Did Well for Themselves in Order For Us to Have Good Lives. (Also: do all of our dads make the same jokes? Apparently.) π For those of us who have witnessed our fathers making themselves smaller in order to provide our privileged upbringings, for those of us who worked at the family business (however grumpily we may have done it), and for those of us who have been there when our families were hit with devastating financial losses: Go. See. This. Play. π (And eat ice cream for dinner.) π Brilliantly done, @polaroidstories. π #LiveTheatre #SupportTheArts #ProfileTheatre #HowToMakeAnAmericanSon #RepresentationMatters #KnittingInTheDark #SeismicYarns https://instagr.am/p/CtYMS7tuZtM/
