Beauty sleep

We're up to four official teeth, and while they are *completely* adorable, teething remains a miserable process for my sweet, cheerful kid. We can see more teeth cutting through, both on the top and the bottom, which means that the only thing Genevieve *can't* cut is a break from teething.

Talkative, smiley, pensive, and of course, Le Tigre.
We're back to only napping if she's being held, or snuggled closely. Of course, it's taken me three days of unsuccessfully trying to set her down in the crib, only for her to wake up and REFUSE to nap, no matter what I do.

Without her sleep, DangerMouse loses some of her sparkle and is not usually her charming self. (This she gets from me.)

I am not one to keep trying something that doesn't work over and over and over and OVER again, so we are back to a do-whatever-needs-doing nap policy with her. We play hard, and we nap hard.

Play hard, nap hard
When I'm holding her, yes, I'm a little frustrated that we did a whole week of crib naps, and now we're right back where we were before. On the flip side, I look at her while she sleeps in my arms, all rosy cheeks and long eyelashes, and I remember that these days are few and dwindling.

As it is, the more active and mobile she is, the less she wants to be held and snuggled. She wants to crawl, climb, chew, touch, and give commentary. She wants to be independent, but - thankfully, for my ego - she wants to know that I'm still there.

In truth, I love the snuggles, because when she wakes up, she's all smiles and charm.

...and there's nothing better than that.

  1. She is so big already!

It never ceases to amaze me, how fast babies grow. They keep doing it in spite of my denial...

You have the cutest baby. Enjoy!

  2. Snuggle, snuggle her----she will be grown up in no time ! I do not believe we can love and snuggle a child too much. Plenty of years ahead that she can sleep in her own bed.

  3. It is so hard as a mother to recognize that you're fighting a losing battle over something that had been working, but now is not! That statement is as true now that D is officially a grown-up, as it was when he was a baby.

I often found that sleep disruption often signalled a cognitive or physical change. It could be teeth, but it also could be that she's getting ready to do something so utterly remarkable that it will knock your socks off when you realize that she's capable of doing it. She's crawling now, but climbing could be next! Or it could be talking in full sentences...

Enjoy the cuddles and the "I want Mom" while you can. Then laugh yourself silly when DangerMouse falls sound asleep mid-crawl.

Take the next step in baby-proofing the house NOW, by the way!

  4. Teething is the WORST!!!!! I feel it last forever!!! Carmen started teething early and I felt she was still teething long after I thought she should have been done! We are finally getting a break but I know the 2 year molars are coming and I don't want them too!

Enjoy the snuggles and she'll get to napping soon enough.

  5. I can relate! My little guy was sleeping through the night, then stopped, then started again, and now I'm up at 3am again every night. It's really frustrating when you feel like things have reached the point you want (sleeping in a crib! Sleeping all night! Long naps instead of cat naps!), then it goes back to how it was before :-/.

I know what everyone is saying is true, though, live it up now, this time will be over before you know it.

Rather appropriately, I typed this comment with 1 finger on my tablet while holding my sleeping baby :-) .

  6. Oh My Goodness!!! The one of you kissing her nose should be on the front cover of some magazine! I also love the very, very, last picture!

You are VERY right, this snuggle time is dwindling fast! Such a small drop in the bucket of her life. Enjoy
