Not so much
Mom posted something on Ravelry that resounded deeply with me. I know, from both the comments and the emails I get, that there are a lot of moms - new and veteran - that read this blog.
Genevieve is 7 months old now, and she's different every single day. I am so grateful to be able to spend every day with her, watching her learn and change.
Mom wrote, "Dishes had to wait while I sat and read to my children, and some of the
relatives thought they needed to comment on that. My children have
changed a lot over the years. The dishes, not so much."

A very wise woman is your mom. I read to my children while all the other stuff waited & they have turned out just fine. avid reader also the both of them.

ReplyDeleteGreat 'Mother knows best' once again and lovely collection of Dangermouse snapshots. I really like that the doggie is in the middle of it and that (obviously!) you don't either belong to those hygiene-paranoid-freaks who would keep the furries ten million miles away from the kiddie. Wisdom and good sense run in the family :-)

Your mom's comment is great!! If you ask my hubby he would tell you that I have MASTERED the art of ignoring house work for playtime with Carmen. :) dishes and house can wait...she cannot! I only get so much time with her and that time is precious! The rest can wait until she is in bed!

Love the wise quote. I'd like to include it in my baby shower cards if I may. Seems to be lots of new babies in our lives, but my baby is moving in to her first apartment and designing shawls. Thanks for the smile.

ReplyDeleteMy husband always attributed our kids' great vocabularies to my poor housekeeping. they would bring me a pile of. Oops to read, and I'd look at the floor that needed to be mopped and the dishes that needed to be washed, and choose to read to them.
ReplyDeleteWhen we finished, they would bring me another pile of books, and the dishes still needed to be washed, but reading was what happened. They are all adults now, and it is the grand kids I read to. (dishes will get washed someday!)

The only relatives who live close enough to visit are my parents and I am grateful that instead of commenting on the dishes in the sink, they wash them.
ReplyDeleteSometime recently someone shared a quote with me. I can't remember the exact wording but it was along the lines of "when you're children are grown, will you regret holding them too much or not enough?"
i love Gigi's sage advice on so many things! i don't have children, but i could easily see this sentiment applying to work as well - something i struggle with myself.

Gigi is one smart cookie. My house was a wreck when the kids were little and now that they're grown it's clean. You have plenty of time to clean 20 years from now.
