Dear Computer Gods;
If you help me recover all the data from my disintegrating hard drive, I promise to back up my data at least once a week. A lot has happened on my computer since January, which happens to be the last time I backed up my computer. Pretty please?
Love,
Jasmin

I'm sorry. I really am. But your post made me think of this:

OHHH You so lose your geek card.
ReplyDeleteOh, boo. :( That happened to me once and it is not fun. Hope you can recover some things.
ReplyDeleteOh sugar!
ReplyDeleteTo borrow the famous add: "automated online backup for one year: $50- peace of mind: priceless"...
(I started doing that after I burned my fingers in a minor way with backing up)
I'll light a candle for St Rita, patron saint of hopeless cases/causes, as I can't imagine who else would deal with computers...
Yeah, that happened to me ONCE and I lost a TON of baby photos of my oldest daughter! I'm too lazy to back up my files, so I pay for Mozy to do it automatically! Worth every penny...
ReplyDeleteIs the hard disk spinning up, or is it giving you an I/O error? If it's giving you an I/O error you *might* be able to retrieve the data by removing it, cleaning the contacts very gently, and trying to get the data onto another hd.
ReplyDeleteSpinrite + Carbonite
ReplyDeleteHope you can recover what you need!
Backblaze. Best $$ I ever spent. Good wishes and vibes coming your way.
ReplyDeleteCrap. That reminds me...
ReplyDeleteThe same thing just happened to me......I'm sending my drive out to get recovered, hoping for good news...
